Prerequisites & Selection Criteria

Selection

The participant selection process will be based on candidates’ movement, life and leadership experience, their application, and our assessment of their readiness for this course. In other words, please be aware that fulfillment of all prerequisites does not guarantee acceptance to the program.

Space in the program is limited, so it is possible that not all qualifying applicants will be accepted. The group will go through the program as a cohort beginning in the Fall of 2027 and ending in the Fall of 2028. We are looking for those who are willing and able to commit to the entire process.

In addition to full participation in the program, students must demonstrate their grasp of the work in its physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects.  Zuza and Michael will support all participants in developing skills and qualities required for certification or when needed, offer guidance about next steps for continuing their development toward certification.

Movement experience

Minimum of two years of own movement practice are required to apply. This includes any awareness-based movement modality, such as Soul Motion, Open Floor,  5Rhythms, Movement Medicine, Azul, Authentic Movement, Continuum, Feldenkrais, Nia, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Contact Improvisation, etc.

Soul Motion experience

Classes or workshops taken before and during (and after) the program, led by any authorized Soul Motion teacher, will greatly enhance your learning. We expect your commitment to continue your intensive study and practice outside of the training sessions.

Stillness/silence practice

This is an essential preparation for effective teaching of this or anything else. The practice of not doing allows the space of silence to inform the teaching, and living. We emphasize the importance of making this a regular practice for anyone considering the Soul Motion teaching path.

Current life situation

You must have enough stability (financial, emotional, living arrangements, family) and space in your life to be able to meet the demands of this training in terms of energy, money, time and capacity to show up for an intensive group learning program.

Emotional maturity

Capacity for and willingness to practice self-reflection, awareness of your own patterns, good communication skills; ability to distinguish between past and present, self and other, intention and impact.

Teaching experience

It will greatly benefit you to have had some previous teaching experience. This is not a requirement, but a recommendation. We encourage everyone to explore creative ways of cultivating this experience, such as in apprenticeship with a movement teacher, by offering a small class to friends, or volunteering a movement program at a senior center or women’s shelter.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance at all in-person sessions in full and at 80% of the online meetings is required for successful completion of the program.

A FINAL NOTE

Over the years it has become increasingly clear that the teaching path is not for everyone. By the end of the program, each participant will have received a personal, detailed assessment along with our recommendations as to the next steps, whether they lead further on the teaching path or toward applying the skills learned in this program in other areas of life and work.

Registration opens on November 7th, 2026
